Vermillion, Douglas Lynn; Samad, Madar; Pusposutardjo, Suprodjo; Arif, Sigit S.; Rochdyanto, Saifal.
Examines the extent to which the Government of Indonesia's aspirations were realized through turnover program adopted in 1987. The impacts of management turnover on irrigation management and irrigated agriculture in selected systems in West and Central Java are analyzed. Analysis of the Insertion of Particular Photovoltaic Generation in the Low Voltage Installations, Under the Approach to Performance, Safety, Maintenance and Operation of the PVS BABT
Moraes,Fillipe Alexandre; Takeda,Othavio Toniasso.
ABSTRACT The growing use of Photovoltaic Solar Energy in Brazil, both in power plants and in distributed generation systems, brings with it a series of practical and technical questions that are not limited to the design and project of the systems. Environmental factors and resources related to the use, operation, maintenance, decommissioning and final disposal of the equipment and components that constitute them, should be taken into consideration, so that these systems maintain an adequate performance during their lifespan granting the safety for users, properties and avoid negative environmental impacts. Within the concept of Risk Analysis within the Life Cycle of these systems, the present study addresses a perspective of the growth of the use of Solar...

Charging for irrigation water: The issues and options, with a case study from Iran AgEcon
Perry, Christopher J..
Inadequate funding for maintenance of irrigation works and emerging shortages of water are prevalent. The use of water charges to generate resources for maintenance and to reduce demand is widely advocated. Examples from other utilities, and from the domestic/industrial sectors of water supply suggest the approach could be effective. In developing countries, the facilities required for measured and controlled delivery of irrigation are rarely in place, and would require a massive investment in physical, legal and administrative infrastructure. To be effective in curtailing demand, the marginal price of water must be significant. The price levels required to cover operation and maintenance (O&M) costs are too low to have a substantial impact on demand,...

Energy and protein nutritional requirements for Nellore bulls R. Bras. Zootec.
Silva,Luiz Fernando Costa e; Valadares Filho,Sebastião de Campos; Zanetti,Diego; Rotta,Polyana Pizzi; Marcondes,Marcos Inácio; Prados,Laura Franco; Paulino,Mário Fonseca; Azevedo,Henrique de Oliveira.
The objective of this study was to determine the nutritional requirements of energy and protein and estimate the efficiencies of metabolizable energy utilization for fat and protein deposition, as well as for maintenance (k m) and growth (k g). An experiment of comparative slaughter was carried out with thirty-seven 14-month-old (±1 month) Nellore bulls with 259±24.9 kg. Animals were divided as follows: five to reference, four to maintenance level and twenty-eight bulls feeding ad libitum. Bulls were also grouped in 4 different feedlot periods (42, 84, 126 and 168 days) for slaughter. The diet was composed of corn silage and concentrate, at a 55:45 ratio. After the slaughter, the left half carcasses were totally dissected for determination of body...

The objective of this study was to determine the energy nutritional requirements for females of Nellore, Nellore × Angus and Nellore × Simmental fed on two levels of concentrate. Sixty heifers from three genetic groups were used: 20 Nellore, 20 Nellore × Angus and 20 Nellore × Simmental. Twelve belonged to the reference group (four of each genetic group) and were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment. Another 12 heifers (four of each genetic group) were fed on the maintenance level and 36 heifers (12 animals of each genetic group) were kept in feeding system ad libitum with 30 (six in each group) or 50% (six of each group) dry matter concentrate. Animals were randomly assigned to six treatments in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement (three genetic...

Estimating age at maturation and energy-based life-history traits from individual growth trajectories with nonlinear mixed-effects models ArchiMer
Brunel, Thomas; Ernande, Bruno; Mollet, Fabian M.; Rijnsdorp, Adriaan D..
A new method is presented to estimate individuals’ (1) age at maturation, (2) energy acquisition rate, (3) energy expenditure for body maintenance, and (4) reproductive investment, and the multivariate distribution of these traits in a population. The method relies on adjusting a conceptual energy allocation model to individual growth curves using nonlinear mixed-effects modelling. The method’s performance was tested using simulated growth curves for a range of life-history types. Individual age at maturation, energy acquisition rate and the sum of maintenance and reproductive investment rates, and their multivariate distribution, were accurately estimated. For the estimation of maintenance and reproductive investment rates separately, biases were observed...

Integrating the effects of salinity on the physiology of the eastern oyster, Crassostrea virginica, in the northern Gulf of Mexico through a Dynamic Energy Budget model ArchiMer
Lavaud, Romain; La Peyre, Megan K.; Casas, Sandra M.; Bacher, Cedric; La Peyre, Jerome F..
We present a Dynamic Energy Budget (DEB) model for the eastern oyster, Crassostrea virginica, which enables the inclusion of salinity as a third environmental variable, on top of the standard foodr and temperature variables. Salinity changes have various effects on the physiology of oysters, potentially altering filtration and respiration rates, and ultimately impacting growth, reproduction and mortality. We tested different hypotheses as to how to include these effects in a DEB model for C. virginica. Specifically, we tested two potential mechanisms to explain changes in oyster shell growth (cm), tissue dry weight (g) and gonad dry weight (g) when salinity moves away from the ideal range: 1) a negative effect on filtration rate and 2) an additional...

ABSTRACTAn investigation into the maintenance culture of industrial generators in the agro-based industries in South-West Nigeria has been carried out. The instruments used for this survey includes: interview, market survey direct observation and questionnaires. Investigation revealed that over 75% of the agro-based industries in the South-West town of Ibadan are predominantly medium scale in status with a carrying capacity of less than 550KVA electricity generating equipment. There is high level compliance (92.5%) tokeeping of daily maintenance record, negligence onlong time fuel keeping (up to 5 weeks at times), a greater degree of negligence inmean time to repairs (MTTR) on malfunctioned components and poor response time to servicing the generator at...

Maintenance of scorpions of the genus Tityus Koch (Scorpiones, Buthidae) for venom obtention at Instituto Butantan, São Paulo, Brazil J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Candido,D. M.; Lucas,S..
This work presents the experience of the Laboratory of Arthropods at Instituto Butantan, which maintains scorpions in captivity in order to obtain the venom used in the production of anti-arachnid serum. Between 1993 and 2000, the laboratory received 24.781 specimens of Tityus serrulatus in order to obtain poison for the production of anti-scorpion serum. In the first extraction, performed by electrical stimulation, the animals gave an average quantity of 0.4 mg venom per specimen. Animal acquisition and involved professional safety are considered. In addition, the captivity, handling and feeding techniques are described, as well as the method and equipment used for venom extraction. It shows the importance of regular campaigns, offering information to the...
